Overview
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
The Bureau of Waste, Reduction and Recycling is within the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Office of Environmental Quality, Division of Material Management. The Bureau's responsibilities are to:
- Provide technical assistance, education and outreach (e.g., waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and organics management)
- Implement the Returnable Container Act; Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act; Rechargeable Battery Recycling Law; and Executive Order 4 (Green Procurement and Agency Sustainability)
- Promote product stewardship and extended producer responsibility programs
- Review Beneficial Use Determination requests, permit applications for composting and organic waste facilities and requests for use of dredge materials
- Administer mercury reduction, toxics in packaging, and hazardous waste reduction plan programs
